  • President's Message - April 2017

    Ride and Rally

The PBA truly appreciates all of the support from Miami-Dade Commissioner Pepe Diaz for his unwavering support of law enforcement. His office personnel worked so hard on the event, and they are all such a pleasure to work with.

We appreciate all the elected officials who attended (too many to try to name them all) and of course all the assistance from the various departments across Miami-Dade County. The officers and the honor guard were exemplary, as always.

A huge “thank you” goes out to all the PBA volunteers, who are directly responsible for the success of the event.

    Session is in full swing

The legislative session is in full gear and we, at the PBA, are trying to stop any further hits to the pension, and spearheading a uniformed body-worn camera bill.

April happens to be Autism Awareness Month and the PBA is supporting a bill creating training for law enforcement to better deal with people suffering from autism.

The PBA is also supporting Senator Frank Artiles’ Sheriff bill. The “Sheriff bill” has gotten a great deal of attention. If passed, Miami-Dade residents would elect one person whose sole responsibility is the safety of the public. The PBA has already been contacted by several extremely fascinating, qualified and powerfully connected individuals that would be interested should the bill pass. They are trying to get a headstart, I suppose.

You can stay informed by checking the Florida PBA website at: www.flpba.gov.

In addition to April Fool’s Day, this month has had some interesting facts. Here’s just a few: 1865 -
Abraham Lincoln was shot; 1923 - Yankee stadium opened; 1961 - the unsuccessful Bay of Pigs invasion began; 1973 - the first portable cell phone call was made in New York city; 1968 - Martin Luther King was assassinated; 1976 - Apple Computer company was formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
